April 20th 2020 - These past few weeks have been surreal. Daily life has turned upside down. I have found it crucial that I keep myself optimistic and energized.
It is in this time that I have decided to take a different path than I am otherwise used to, and create paintings that are rapid expression of my feelings using texture, form, color, and technique. It has become the vessel by which I express how I feel using my imagination and creativity.
I feel that “life is full of color and, like so many other things in our path, color has meaning. It exists in our everyday experiences.”
My biggest realization over the past few weeks is that the most constant state in this world is Hope.
I started with my blank canvases, that lacked the conventional existence of form and color. And from that state of nonexistence came something, the idea that we are all still alive in this wonderful world.
From the state of nonexistence came reality, dreams, reflections, illusions, purpose, echo, spirit, breath, purity, and light (these are also the titles for my paintings).
I used different types and sizes of unconventional tools so that there is movement on canvas. When it’s completed, the painting has it’s own rhythm, structure, and integrity, and would therefore showcase the different zones of energy that I found in myself daily. Instead of maintaining the flatness, I built up the canvas with acrylic molding medium to make the forms and textures pop off the surface.
