The Artist
Ashmita is driven by her passion to interpret and draw out the unique beauty of natural elements that surround us.
She was born in Mumbai where she spent her formative years and after 5 years at University and a degree in art from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts, she specialized in advertising and pursued a career in the same, working as a visual artist for the next 8 years in leading advertising agencies both in Mumbai and Bangalore, India.
She moved to the United States and took a break from work, and in 2006 resurfaced with a fresh perspective, picking up her paint brushes. This was a period of experimentation and artistic communication with her canvas. During this time she worked on different styles in a series of abstracts in acrylics and called them "colorful bursts of artistic expression". She is influenced by everything she sees, feels and experiences around her.
"Artists are a product of their environment. We are sensitive to what we visually see and feel around us. My travels have informed and shaped much of what I do and in return, I bring a new point of view and an invigorated energy to my canvas".
Ashmita uses these strong influences and blends them with modern and refreshing nuances to develop bright and opulent pieces of art.
